Monkey Business

In African folklore the monkey is considered to be equally smart and lazy.  For instance, there is the story about the time when...but I suppose I should wait and tell you that one in person.  Suffice it to say that monkeys are considered to be very smart, and have not earned that reputation by chance.  They're like little children, really, they seem harmless and cute and then they pull off some con that has you scratching your head and wondering how they thought it up.  And like any truly good con artist, they bind their victims with a vow of absolute silence.  For who would ever admit to being outwitted by a monkey?

The Deadly Five (Part 2): The African Buffalo

What's got two horns, four feet, and nearly a half ton of attitude?  You guess it, the African Buffalo!  This is one bovine you do NOT want to mess with.  Unlike the Asian Water Buffalo, the African Buffalo is wild and a bit unpredictable.  At 1.7m (5' 7") high and 3.4m (13ft) long and between 500–900kg (1100-1200lb), it is not something to be messed with.  And, unlike the rhino, the African Buffalo is smart as well.  How smart?  Well, you just have to watch my video to find out!

There are five animals to be wary of in Africa. One is the Honey Badger. The African Honey Badger weights 12kg (26.5lbs), and is roughly 100cm (39in) long, and 26cm (10in) tall. It's fur is a light brown on the top half and black on the lower half.

Athanasio and the Lion (Part 1)

Did you know that there are eight different types of lions in Africa? In Tanzania, we have the Tsavo lion. This subspecies is huge, and can measure up to300cm (10ft) long and 91cm (3ft) tall. One of the most interesting things about the Tsavo lion is that the males are usually maneless! Scientists aren't sure why male Tsavo lions don't have manes, but some speculate that they adapted to traveling through thick and thorny undergrowth where a mane would get caught too easily.
